Set in mythical ancient China, canon is Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation aka Mo Dao Zu Shi.

Wei Wuxian is a wuxia-world soul-cultivator, whose soul was reborn via sacrifice into a new body. Before his death, he was the world's most powerful necromancer, who stood in opposition to all the other cultivation sects. Ultimately, he was killed by a backlash after losing control of his own dark powers.
